Brian Watson, Chairperson and Trustee | Te Whāngai Trust

Brian Watson

Brian Watson is an experienced company director and governance specialist with deep expertise in accreditation systems and leadership roles across the public and private sectors.

He has more than 20 years’ experience in science, testing, inspection and certification leadership, including senior executive roles such as CEO of Bureau Veritas New Zealand and General Manager of Laboratory Services at AsureQuality.

Brian brings strategic insight from his roles as Director at Standards New Zealand and other governance positions, underpinned by qualifications in science and management.

Tom Walmsley, Deputy Chairperson and Trustee | Te Whāngai Trust

Tom Walmsley

Tom Walmsley is a senior advisory and engineering professional affiliated with leading international consultancies including Accenture, PIP and Aurecon in Aotearoa New Zealand.

He brings expertise in strategy, infrastructure, systems integration and organisational performance across complex projects, with experience advising public and private sector clients on digital transformation, operating models and consultancy delivery.

Tom’s broad professional background spans structural advisory roles and delivering cross-discipline outcomes in built environment and infrastructure advisory contexts, providing Te Whāngai Trust with valuable experience in strategic leadership and external partnership development.

Trustee | Ngāi Tūhoe

Tania Pouwhare MNZM

Tania Pouwhare (Ngāi Tūhoe) brings more than 30 years’ experience advancing social and economic justice, particularly for women, whānau and communities most impacted by inequality.

She has worked across Aotearoa and the UK in roles spanning policy, campaigning, innovation and Indigenous economic development. Tania is currently Chief Executive of social lender Good Shepherd NZ.

Previously she was General Manager of The Southern Initiative at Auckland Council, where she helped pioneer social procurement in Aotearoa and co-founded Amotai.

Tania is a Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Fellowship for Social Equity, an Honorary Fellow of Engineering NZ, and in 2024 was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori and Pasifika communities and the environment.

Trustee

Nathan Jones

Nathan Jones is General Counsel and Regulatory Affairs Lead for BlueScope New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, where he provides strategic legal leadership across regulatory, compliance and commercial matters for one of New Zealand’s major industrial businesses.

He has significant in-house legal experience within the steel sector, including senior counsel roles at New Zealand Steel and BlueScope, and began his legal career at Chapman Tripp.

Nathan’s expertise spans corporate governance, risk management and regulatory frameworks, and he contributes to Te Whāngai Trust’s board with a strong foundation in legal strategy and commercial governance.

Adrienne Dalton MNZM, Co-Founder and Trustee | Te Whāngai Trust

Adrienne Dalton is a founding leader of Te Whāngai Trust and an experienced director with a long record of community and infrastructure service.

Her governance work encompasses organisations that prioritise social value, connectivity and sustainable community outcomes.

Adrienne combines hands-on leadership rooted in Te Whāngai’s kaupapa with governance insight that supports the Trust’s mission to integrate environmental delivery and social regeneration. She was honoured as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to contribution and youth.

Gary Dalton

Co-Founder and Trustee

Gary Dalton is a founding director of Te Whāngai Trust whose leadership helped establish the Trust’s vision of linking environmental stewardship with social pathways.

With a background in community engagement and practical delivery of programme outcomes, Gary brings deep organisational knowledge and lived experience of Te Whāngai’s kaupapa.

His focus remains on strengthening pathways for rangatahi and community participants through meaningful, purpose-driven work opportunities within the Trust’s initiatives.
